Day 52: Port Townsend, WA

Table of Contents

I woke up around 9am. I'm parked out in Apple and Corey's driveway. They have a 30amp plug in my spot. That's the one made for RV's. The previous owner of the house had a big class A (the tour bus style RV) and they had that put in. It's pretty handy for this type of thing.

My sleeping spot for the next 3 nights.

Looking out the van door.

I walked into the house and there was a kitchen full of people and Corey was making everybody breakfast. He's a nurturer and clearly finds purpose in being of service. He loves to cook for everybody.

Over the course of my stay, Corey has turned me on to several useful little things:

1) This chai. I cycled off of coffee several months ago and I've been drinking Ryze mushroom coffee. It made the switch easy and I quickly developed a taste for it. I also like the idea that I'm putting good stuff into my body along with my morning "coffee." I went through my entire supply and lately I've been making some simple chai in the van. But the chai Corey was making was next level.

2) Induction heat plate. He cooks everything on this, despite the fact that they have a high-end gas range. I think it would be a good solution / addition to my cooking setup in the van. Amazon link here.

3) Nasal spray. This stuff is part of his morning ritual. You squirt a little up each nostril and blow your nose. Makes you feel pretty clean. As an added bonus, it can also be used as a neti pot to irrigate your sinuses. Glad to know about this stuff - I'll keep one around going forward.

4) This ice cream that might be the best ice cream I've ever had.

After our late breakfast, Corey and I went to the co-op store. I got a container of Corey's favorite chai for the van and saw the spot where Apple goes to work every day.

When we got home they started preparing for a little gathering they were hosting from 3pm to 6pm. They invited around a dozen people. I flew the drone and took some footage of their house.

The gathering was a nice mix of folks. I didn't take any photos. I'll post if I can get some from someone who did. Corey made some salmon and a number of other things, Apple made some kind of an artichoke casserole, and everybody who came brought something. It was a delicious and I ate quite a bit. Afterwards, my teeth pain came back in a serious way. Corey gave me some oxycodone, which I have rarely ever taken in my life. I took it and napped for about an hour in the middle of the party. When I woke, my tooth pain was gone. It's seeming more likely that I'm going to have to go to a doctor or dentist to identify and address whatever is going on.

Then around 6pm, Karen was having an art show opening of her paintings downtown, so we walked down there and checked out the gallery. Her work is nicely done paintings of scenes from the old fort here in Port Townsend. There was a frozen yogurt place across the street. That sounded good on my teeth, so I got some coffee and vanilla flavored one with crumbled Oreos on top and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Port Townsend has a lovely fountain in the center of town with an iconic set of stairs behind it. We walked up the stairs and headed back home.

Corey's daughter Minky (Keminko?) was leaving to drive back to Portland and couldn't get the stereo in her truck to work. I did some quick electrical tests to try to figure it out but whatever was going on with it would require more time than we had available.

Then everybody napped and agreed to convene again at 9:15pm to head over to night two of the Fiddle Tunes festival. It was a pretty big group, and we got out of the house about an hour late. The festival didn't quite have the energy that it had the previous night. But it was a good time. Absolutely fabulous people-watching. Everybody had a smile on their face, and it was generally just a good scene.

We walked back home in the dark on the neighborhood trails that have me so enamored. We all gathered in the kitchen and Corey was telling stories until we all went to bed around 1am.

The van has been in the shop here in Portland for two weeks. I finally get to pick it up tonight. I'll be picking up Grayce v.2.0. My home just got a significant makeover. I was already at a point where I was considering solar, but
